Its seems virtualy impossible to get good maple veneer 1.5mm here in Belgium, Europe. Little alone for a descent price.
We are making a few 100% custom decks for "friends and neighbours". Experimental and oldskool shapes.
To start with, it's hard to convince wood suppliers that SKATEBOARDS ARE NOT TOYS (it gives a strange feeling being look at (or even laught with) for several seconds like you are 30 year old child, in the middle of an office of a woodsupplier). And that the quality , thickness ect is important. And that a deck out of oak will not fly... euh... is not a skateboard.
Ordering maple from the USA is possible, but OR you have to buy a full container OR the shippingcosts are way to high.
Maybe we're looking in the wrong places.
Does anybody has any suggestions ? |

Normally wood suppliers have a shipping company they use. However you can always get in contact with other shipping companies that run general or mixed cargo regularly. A forwarding agency always can help you, if you have the exact measurements (weight, size etc.). Most international freight forwarders offer scheduled shipping. I'm not, yet. |

Sorry i don't have a clue who is a good wood supplier or who has the best quality.
However shipping a bit more raw material in a crate will be cheaper and probably avoid damage. And you will have no hassle wth the customs.
What you seem to asking for, sounds like 7 plys of wood send via postal service. |

I'm a skateboard manufacturer in Maasmechelen, Belgium. I've got some good US skate veneer. I can hook you up with low volumes of veneer (1 to 20 decks) for a reasonable price.
P.M. me for details when interested. |

Better quality veneer for less money.
Shipping is cheaper.
Can't help you on minimumsthat's pretty much an industry-wide thing. Seek out others that need veneers and co-op on an order. |
