The course is no longer straight, it has curves and turns, and they race in packs rather than one at a time. |

So you'll need good sliding wheels and gloves with plastic. Thanks. |

I think those are similar terms for what's often the same thing, but "speedboarding" is more specific to downhill longboard racing. Slalom goes "downhill" and is racing, so some prefer the speedboarding term. Most use them interchangeably and just call slalom, "slalom". Sliding tends to be "down hills", too, but I think most people just call it "sliding". |

The slide guys seem to want to call it downhill freestyle. |

Not all the time. Personally, I now avoid using wheels like original Kryptonics because they are too slidy. In downhill racing, you may "drift", but you want a grippy wheel that can hook back up when you want it to. My choice of wheel for that would be either 75mm Pink Big Zigs, or 76mm 78a Flywheels.
But usually in racing, you want to grip as much as you can. When you slide you lose speed = less exit speed. And speedboarding is all about being fastest down the hill and first to pass the line. |
