Wow!
I am super suprized by that. They have the edge on the materials and they would go overthere?
Man things are getting bad.
I hope you were mis-informed, but you are probably correct.

Thats a common practice. You guys would be shocked by the actual numbers.
The worst part is that it is most commonly used for shop decks, and those shop decks are taking a 60-70 percent market share at the moment.

i was just as suprised. i sent them an email asking them to clear things up for me and that i was interested in why they would be doing that but i have yet to hear back. i'll post their response if they send one, but i'm sure its the bottom dollar.

i wonder how many shops are doing that without even telling you. Its fucked up that they even offer that but atleast its just an option and not standard.

I'll have some feedback on penns wood in about 2-3 weeks

I'll be printing my own stuff but it will be on their wood. Gives me the ability to have several graphics at one time instead of getting like 25 of one graphic at a time. Plus I can change the colors around and put hidden messages.

My veneer should be here in a few days. I'll be doing a little test run of about 10 black on white decks, a few with a top graphic possibly. If all goes well, I'll get more ink colors and other crap.

I duno how many people give two shits about my two cents but I'll still put it in your cup.

Here's their reply.

Hey Ryan, I must admit even if your email kind of meant you didnt want to work with us in the future, I really appreciated hearing you express your view on skateboarding. You seem to have true values about the sport so props to you for that man. All of our brands are made with 100% pure hard rock Canadian maple as you know. We would never have any of our brand names associated with china wood. But, being located in eastern Canada, we do have to compete with a lot of local small manufactures that cant press their own decks so import china stuff and distributors working with companies such as Dwindle to offer blank products to shops. We had no choice to be able to offer a lower price point product to compete with these guys and be able to satisfy the needs of the customer, even if it is something I dont enjoy seeing. I would say 50% of shop decks in Quebec and Ontario offer lower quality shop decks to reduce their sale price. It is just much easier for us to offer the same price as our competitors for their decks, and then prove to the client that the ugrade of quality is worth it.

Commercialism is ruining everything around us, if its related to sports, music, business or anything else really. I understand your point of view on it, as I am really strict with my values towards honesty and dedication, but it is not my company so not my choice to have these products. It is my choice not to offer them, as I do.

On another note, if we do somehow encourage China products on our side of the world, we are also trying to abolish it where the source is from. We opened up a distribution centre and office in Shanghai where we sell Premium, Avera and Alien Workshop products in all the shops in China to help them abolish the unpure China made products in their area, so we can relocate their markets values towards a good quality product and not an image or price oriented product.

Anyways, the decision is yours I guess. At least we are upfront about it, we dont use china products trying to sell them as Canadian made like others.

Peace man, take care

Sean Connors - sales associate

I repect their honesty, but they have big things going on besides their china wood. it seems an attempt to squeze the last possible cent outta their market.

Yeah at least they are up front about it, but I still would rather deal with a 100% USA (or canadian) company.

Ok I know you guys don't know me that well yet but I have been reading this board and getting tons of info off this board for the last couple months. I'm about to start putting all I learned in the last couple months to work.(Thanks SkullandBones).. I wanted to just give you guys my opinion and ask a question on the two best boards I came across and it seams like I hear allot about these two company's the most lately. Pennswood and Woodchuck. Im torn between the two, they are both great boards and both are different maples., I'm riding a Pennswood now and I love it, before that I had the woodchuck board and it had hell OH POP and Feel and I loved it also. Pennswood is a little thicker but it's a rock solid board. Woodchuck has better printing options and there staff is way cool and will tell you any info about the industry you want to know. The easiest to work with by far. Joe seams like a nice guy but hard to get a hold of. I'm about to order 100 boards to start off and I can't decide which company to go with. I'm just curious if you had to choose between these two company's and these two only because I'm down to one of the two in my opinion which would you guys go with based on all aspects of each company? (Except shipping becuse Wodchuck will work with the shipping costs to compete with Pennswood)

Please help me make a good decision I'm torn between the two.

Thanks

(A man stuck at home on Percoset because he just broke his left wrist and sprained his right Sunday at Lansdowne. damn concrete don't give lol!! and now has allot of time to play on the computer at home and do some research.

bro sometimes having someone easier to work with makes the differemce for you instead of the harder boards
you really have to step back and analyze your situation.
who will be buying your boards (little kids or old school guys)
the kids dont give a shit except about cool graphics so i say go with whoever is cheaper and easier to work with
for the older guys you may just have to mabye wait a little longer and get the boards you like better i dont know your particular situation or how you plan to market your product

pretty much sit down and write down everything you can about who your target market is and decide which will be best from there there are a lot of factors to consider price, quality of wood and graphics, and most importantly can you trust your manu to deliver as promised.....
try not to let your emotions take over because this is a big decision for you and can possibly make or break your name

also get some wristguards and go skating.... now

hope this helps
