I remember playing skate tag in the hallways of a school with my friends. The guy that pushed mongo always won because he could turn corners while pushing. It was weird but he had this technique of pushing and kickturning at the same time and he could cut you off at every corner.
Yeah......you can drag your front foot behind you like a break rudder and tick tack skid your tail around corners and pedestrians..... great to be able to push weird tail daffys that zig zag through a crowd.....rear wheel drive and steering......haha🤓
You can also de-weight your front trucks and lift over cracks and shit without going endo face plant.
I agree it is power push.
Other than that it sucks balls and that split second you lose ‘setting up’ your feet can cause all sorts of fuck ups......
I tried to change but who cares when you only skate bowls and ramps.
EVERYBODY is Mongo when they set their tail on the coping and drop in......haha. |

Oh.....and the other thing that is really bad, especially for collectors, is that mongo pushers wear out the top logo.
Sorry I don’t know any more pro mongos in the 80s but in the 70s it didn’t seem to be an issue.
Hope my perspective adds something............looking forward to hearing the song🤓👍 |

Is it really a power push? When I see Johnee Cop and Danforth push it always seemed like they were struggling to get speed when they were pushing toward an obstacle. Either way, I don't care if you push with your ass cheeks. If you skate...you're part of the tribe. |

I dunno.....maybe less weight on the front....I dunno but when ever I push a broken down car it’s from the back and not the front.🤪
Yeah Hackett puts his back foot up front so it looks normal....until he does the shove......looks natural foot when pushing but then flicks it all back goofy......check out New York scene FP. |

Hackett has the weirdest mongo........his back foot is soooo far forward.
Kinda defeats the purpose.
Ha......I never noticed that before....thanks Chilemac. |

That's cool! I never noticed that he pushes like that. It looks like he can effortlessly push either way in the 85 Sure-Grip Beach Style contest video. I guess Hackett puts the whole "mongo = bad style" argument to rest. Hackett rules!

Cool vid.......cheers.
Looks like Hackett only pushes mongo when he wants to gain power/speed....haha.....Danforth definitely has the whole back tail wheelie tick tack thing going on.....haha......mongo is hilarious to watch.....there is definitely something weird about having your whole board hanging so far out in front of you.....✌🏻 |
